Organ Donation .

Introduction: Brain dead donors are one of the main sources for organs transplantation. Donors with primary brain tumor are marginal donors hence this etiology is a challenging concern for metastatic outcomes. This study was designed to evaluate donation outcomes from the primary brain tumors in terms of procured organs.
Patients and Methods: Between 2003 and 2022, 302 organ transplantations were performed from 111 brain dead donors with Primary Brain Tumor (4.8%). Determined histology of tumor was available in case of cranial surgery; otherwise neurologist's opinion was assessed for decision making. Ratio of procured Organ quantity per donor, determined tumor transmission and rate of suitable lung and heart were compared in brain tumor donors (group A) with 111 donors with neither tumor nor trauma which randomly were selected. (group B).
Results: Mean age of the donors in Group A and B was 36.8+-15.8 and 46.22+-14 y/o. (p<0.05). There was a significant difference in organ per donor ratio: 2.7 organs per donor in group A vs. 2.3 in Group B (P<0.05). Heart or lung procurement was considerably higher in group A compared to group B.
Conclusion: Among all non-head trauma donors, brain tumor group is the best source for heart-lung procurement therefore these donors should not be excluded at the first glance and get more attention for further assessment.
