Professor Peter Jaksch is a pulmonologist and Head of Transplant Pulmonology at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria. His main focus is on education and clinical research projects, and he has led, for the past 10 years, “Transplantation Academies” to discuss all aspects associated with Lung Transplantation. Additionally, he is offering Workshops to transplant pulmonologists through local Scientific Societies, with the aim of sharing best practices in the field of lung transplantation and improve outcomes for patients. He is also involved in numerous projects with different Lung Transplant centres (Hannover, Oslo, Leuven, Budapest) that have led to peer-reviewed scientific publications. Outside of the clinic, he has participated in public relation initiatives with lung transplanted patients, including the successful climb of Mount Kilimanjaro with 10 patients (also accompanied by medical doctors, psychologists and nurses). These activities have generated widespread interest and resulted in a large number of TV and radio interviews, presentations in scientific meetings and publication in peer-reviewed scientific publications. Importantly, they aimed at encouraging patients to accept lung transplantation as a treatment option.
