Biography
Benedetta Bussolati obtained her medical degree at the University of Torino (Italy) and her PhD on Physiopathology of the Renal Insufficiency at the University of Parma (Italy). During her post-Doc she worked at the Laboratory of Vascular and Reproductive Physiopathology, directed by Prof. Asif. Ahmed, in Birmingham on the role of VEGF receptors and on hemeoxygenase. She was assistant Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Torino from 2001 to 2004. She currently holds the position of Associate Professor of Nephrology at the University of Torino and director of a Research group at the Molecular Biotechnology Centre.
She has a strong background on renal pathophysiology, on angiogenesis and on the mechanisms of renal damage and progression. In addition, she has extensive experience in studies of stem cell biology and regenerative medicine that include characterization of various stem cell types and their potential use for tissue regeneration. In the recent years, she is focusing on the role of extracellular vesicles and of their molecular cargo in regenerative medicine and as diagnostic tool.
