Dr Samantha Bateman lives and works on the Lands of the Peramangk and Kaurna people. She is a nephrologist at the Central and Northern Adelaide Renal and Transplantation Service, based at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in South Australia (SA) with remote outreach services to Aboriginal communities throughout SA. She is a PhD candidate, researching the benefits and burdens of kidney transplantation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through the University of Adelaide and a chief investigator on the Aboriginal Kidney Care Improving Outcomes Now (AKction) and Connecting Our Mob Peer Navigators as Sustainable Supports (COMPASS) projects, all of which are co-designed and governed by First Nations kidney consumers. She is committed to working and walking alongside First Nations people living with kidney disease to improve outcomes and better access to care.
