Biography

Yewondwossen Tadesse Mengistu MD is a Consultant Nephrologist and Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the School of Medicine(SOM), College of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa University(AAU).
His work is primarily focused on clinical service and teaching of internal medicine and nephrology to undergraduate students and residents in internal medicine as well as fellows in nephrology. He is still in active clinical practice and takes care of patients with kidney diseases of all forms including lots of patients who have undergone kidney transplantation. In the 25 years he has been in the practice of nephrology in Ethiopia, he has mentored several nephrologists including the nephrologist who spearheaded the first kidney transplant program in Ethiopia.
Yewondwossen has over 35 publications in peer-reviewed journals on various issues in nephrology, has coauthored a book chapter and has made several presentations on various topics in nephrology in national, regional and international forums.
He has been and still is actively involved in professional associations throughout his career. He has worked as Secretary and President of the Ethiopian Medical Association and has served (and serves) in various committees of the International Society of Nephrology(ISN)and the African Association of Nephrology (AFRAN) . Currently he is a member of the Advocacy Working Group of the ISN and the African Regional Board of the ISN. He is also a member of the Council of the Declaration of Istanbul Custodian Group and the AFRAN Council.
