Maheen Abidi, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Transplant Infectious Disease Faculty at the University of Colorado Denver. Dr. Abidi received her medical degree from Dow University of Health Sciences in Karachi, Pakistan. She completed an Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago, in Chicago, IL, an Infectious Disease Fellowship at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY, a Geriatrics Fellowship at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, OR and a Transplant Infectious Disease Fellowship at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Rochester, MN. Her research interests lie in investigating the relationship of chronic viral infections and viral immune reconstitution with novel outcomes of aging in Solid Organ Transplant recipients. Dr. Abidi is the recipient of an NIA-C K23 Award (2021-2026) titled “CMV and CMV-Immune Responses in Geriatric Conditions Post-Kidney Transplant (CMV-GeriKT)”. This K23 grant investigates the relationship of CMV with Frailty and Aging in Kidney Transplant recipients. Through this grant Dr. Abidi is also investigating clinical outcomes of Transplant recipients in the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR). Dr. Abidi is currently serving as the chair of the AST IDCOP Older Adult workgroup and as a member-at-large of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network- Disease Transmission Advisory Committee (OPTN-DTAC).
